Objective: Raising money for microloans!!!

Hi!

Thanks for coming to my page and helping me raise 3000 dollars (or more!) to fund entrepreneurs with great ideas for creating businesses in their own poverty stricken communities
.

Almost there! Current cash donations total (not included on the website) is 910 dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I think microlending is an AWESOME way to get involved in the fight against poverty because it is so effective in promoting economic stability and equality in areas that have been deprived of capital resources.

Current maldistribution of resources causes instability and affects many with the violence of poverty.  It also affects how communities interact with the ecosystems around them.  Microloans reinforce cooperation within communities and promote development from within the community by directing small loans towards individual entrepreneurs who cannot access these resources by traditional means due to collateral requirements, high interest rates, and strict deadlines.

Right now, I'm raising the money and learning a lot about microlending systems (as I finish up my studies at Boston University) so I can join 24 other riders on a 3000 kilometer ride down the coast, raising awareness of microcredit in communities we visit and Critical Mass rides we join along the way.

Any donation you make will encourage me and really help the individuals receiving these loans.

-
All loans are directly focused on individual entrepreneurs approved by on-site teams in
  areas of need
- Loans as low as 25 dollars are distributed based on the need represented in borrower's
  applications
- KIVA, the organization we are partnered with has a 97% repayment rate
- Here's our Agents of Change, KIVA lending site with information about our borrowers
  http://www.kiva.org/lender/agentsofchange

As you make a donation, consider where the money you spend daily goes.  As college students we don't have a lot extra, but 5 dollars can go much farther in many other communities.  Consider giving up a morning coffee (unless its fair trade of course ;) or substituting an evening city stroll instead of using the "T" ...

A pledge of a penny for each kilometer would be 30 dollars.

This is a tax-deductible donation and a printable US tax receipt will be automatically issued.

Thanks for your support and encouragement!   Vera Pfeiffer
